§ 5-14. Animal traps without holding mechanism.

  • A person may set up on his own property humane traps used to capture dogs, cats, and other small animals alive which must be sheltered and shall be checked at least once every two (2) hours or every eight (8) hours if left overnight by the individual setting the trap. Humane care shall be provided for any trapped animals including the provision of food, water, and protection from extremes of the environment including heat, cold, and precipitation. Trapped dogs or cats bearing identification shall be turned over to the department or the animal's owner.
